LOS ANGELES, CA – July 15, 2011 – Melting Pot Food Tours, the leading Los Angeles city tour company specializing in hosted culinary food tours, today announced it is launching its much anticipated L.A. Latin Spice Food Tour of the City's vibrant East Side.

Discover some of L.A.'s most delicious hidden wonders as the hosted L.A. Latin Spice Food Tour features marvelous food and brings surprising local color to life as guests explore fascinating culture and table top traditions. Tastings include foods perhaps typically expected -- yet extraordinarily prepared -- from salsas to tamales to pupusas. As an added treat, guests will enjoy rides between escorted walking tour stops in the safe comfort of the scenic Metro Gold Line trains. The Latin Spice tour is offered several times a week; for a tour itinerary, pictures and schedule see www.zerve.com/MeltingPot/LatinLA.

"Tourists and newcomers to L.A. love the richness, the soulfulness, of these tours," Melting Pot Food Tours Co-founder Lisa Scalia said. "L.A. residents will rediscover a diverse, culturally rich city they only thought they knew."

The Latin Spice Food Tour brings to three, the portfolio of Melting Pot food tasting tours currently offered, including Farmers Market & 3rd Street and Old Pasadena. All feature themes of history, culture and tradition combined with memorable culinary experience. Melting Pot Food Tours was founded by sisters Lisa & Diane Scalia, both Los Angeles area natives and life-long residents. Together, they have created a variety of offerings which reflect their passion for all things related to food and the culinary arts.

"The Latin Spice tour celebrates the unique brand of Angeleno that our beautiful Latin-American community in East Los Angeles represents within our great city," said Diane Scalia, Melting Pot Food Tours co-founder. "Glorious foods prepared from time-honored family recipes, artistic contributions, heartwarming stories of courage and inspiration, all combined with true warmth and hospitality to yield the "spice" in this tour and an unforgettable experience."

L.A. Latin Spice Tour highlights:

  • Visit LA's first tortilla factory
  • Taste time-honored family recipes
  • Visit a nationally-renowned tamale restaurant
  • Visit L.A.'s first birrieria
  • Hear stories of courageous spirit, community, and family loyalty from local merchants

Beginning near downtown Los Angeles, the tour also spends time in Boyle Heights, with well-deserved focus on Mariachi Plaza, the grand centerpiece of the neighborhood. Palates are pleased beyond measure with a unique medley of fresh, amazing Latin flavors that have graced family tables for generations. Guests are escorted both by foot, and safe scenic rails riding between stops on the Metro Gold Line. The Metro Gold Line has been hailed by the L.A.
